Dwar of Hari or Gateway to Lord Vishnu, is a
holy city situated at the base of Shivalik
ranges of high Himalayas as well as on the flow
path of revered River Ganga. It is widely
believed that by taking a dip in this holy
river, one is cleared of all his past sins.
Lakhs of devotees from all over India visit
Haridwar every year to take a dip in the holy
River Ganga.
Maa Ganga after carrying the purity of heaven
from the kamandal of Lord Brahma, washing the
feet of Lord Vishnu and flowing through the
Sahasratra of Lord Shiva came on this earth and
made Haridwar as its divine flow area. From
time immemorial, Maa Ganga has been doing the
duty of absorbing the heat and negativities of
this earth. Besides and , It is Gateway for the
four Dhams of Himalayas viz. Gangotri,
Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath.
It is also believed that Amrit which was one of
fourteen ornaments that came out from the
SamundraManthan was sprinkled at 12 places in
the universe out of which 8 places are in
heaven. Har-Ki-Pauri in Haridwar was one of the
four places where Amrit was sprinkled on earth.
As a result , every 12 years Kumbh comes to
Haridwar and draws half a million pilgrims.
Mussoorie
Mussoorie, the home
of 'Cedrus Deodara' is a whole season heaven
located in midst of the middle Himalaya known as
the 'Shivalik' mountain range. Perched at an
altitude of 7000 feet above sea level, the hill
station is known for its mouth-dropping
sceneries. The breathtakingly beautiful Doon
Valley, the ridge lines dotted with tall
deodars, myriads of flower, green wavy hills,
known and strange fauna make this lovely hill
station a fairy tale town. The hill resort got
its name from a shrub named 'Mansur' found in
abundance.
Unlike other hill stations, Mussoorie was never
the summer capital of British but it has always
captivated the visitors with its ambience of
informality and romance since ages and probably
this is the reason, it got the title of
'honeymoon capital of India' long back.
Red-tiled cottage type houses, Tibetan prayer
flags, ancient monasteries and Chortens have
added colour. No other hill station is at such
close proximity to the snowy ranges as
Mussoorie. It is open to the north, so the snowy
peaks are clearly visible.
Today this highly developed hill station is a
vibrant tourist destination. Amble along the
walkways, enjoy the company of holidaymakers
filling the winding lanes with loud exuberance,
dig out the several hidden treasures crammed
into its compact territory .The hill station has
something for all tastes!
Climate
Mussorie enjoys a pleasant climate through out
the year. Its climate acts as a magnet and draws
tourists in large numbers especially in summers.
Winters are quite severe here and the roads get
blocked because of heavy snowfall. It is
suggested to carry thick woolen garments to
combat the chilly weather. The temperature
ranges between 9 and 29C in summer and between
7 and l C in winter. The monsoons usually
arrive in the the end of June and lasts through
September with an average rainfall of 177-288
cm. The tourist season is from May to June, and
again from September to November which is the
spring time. The hill station wows the tourists
by providing clear view of the mighty Himalayas
during September to November.
Kempty Falls
Kempty Falls are one
of the most beautiful water falls in not only
Uttarakhand, rather the whole of India.
Enveloped by high mountain cliffs and situated
at an altitude of about 4500 feet above the sea
level, the falls present an awe-inspiring view
as the water falls down from a high altitude and
then splits into five streams. The water falling
down from Kempty Falls appears to be doing a
somersault before it hits the ground. Situated
on the Mussoorie-Dehradun Highway, this popular
tourist location attracts crowd from all over
the country.
Kempty Falls was developed as a picnic spot by
the British officer John Mekinan, around 1835.
It is believed that, the name Kempty is a
derivation of the Camp-Tea, the tea parties
that the British used to organize here. Situated
on the hilly pathway of Uttarakhand, Kempty
Falls are strikingly beautiful. They prove to be
the perfect place for picnic or for spending a
couple of hours listening to the sound of the
water-falls, amidst lush green vegetation.
Generally, Kempty Falls is crowded with
tourists, but after stepping across the lines
along the flow of the stream, your may found a
secluded rocky corral formed naturally by the
streams. The sacred river, Yamuna is not too far
from the falls. After 12 km, down the hill on
crossing the Aglar River, the waters of Kempty
meet Yamuna. Fishing here is very popular.
However, permits are to be taken from Divisional
Forest Officer, Mussoorie, before fishing at
Kempty Falls.
